Michael J. Downie, DDS, MD

Dr. Downie was raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated with a D.D.S. from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1996. Dr. Downie received his M.D. from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 1999. He then completed a one year internship in general surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and subsequently finished his 6 year oral and maxillo facial surgery residency at the Baylor College of Dentistry/Texas A&M University System in 2002.
He joined Drs. Broude, Barthel, and Jenny in 2002 — the practice subsequently changed names in 2003 to become Twin Cities Oral and Maxillo facial Surgery. Professionally, his passion is excellence in dental implant surgery and bone grafting for his patients. In 2003 he started the Twin Cities 1m plant society — a professional study club for referring dentists to focus on excellence in implant dentistry through high-quality continuing education. Furthermore, Dr. Downie mentors several general dentists to surgically place dental implants. He is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillo facial Surgery (ABOMS) and is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillo facial Surgeons (AA OMS), past President of Minnesota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Minnesota Dental Association (MDA), American Medical Association (AMA), and past President of the St. Paul District Dental Society (SPDDS). He volunteers his time through the Union Gospel Mission Dental clinic in St. Paul, Give Kids a Smile, and was the committee chair for the 2006 Midwinter Meeting of the SPDDS.
Dr. Downie is married and has three children. Personal interests include spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, trumpet and guitar as well as golfing.
